“The pieces of art I have received from Ruthie Kellar are absolutely exquisite! Her attention to detail, compassionate spirit, and love for her craft can be seen in every single brush stroke. I feel honored to have her work displayed in my house! ”

— Customer Review

It all started when…

my cousin asked me to paint her wedding venue — a historic house. That was almost four years and I haven’t stopped painting houses since! People ask why.

Its an honor to be invited into people’s stories; to be invited to be a part of them by painting something to celebrate the life of a house and the family who has lived there, to commemorate all the memories that will never die even when your home becomes ‘an old house,’ and to rejoice over the gift of a new place to build new memories. It’s all big, it’s all important, and it’s an invitation into that special place. To be trusted with the memory of a house and all that lives inside is truly special to me and I don’t take it lightly.

I take great care in painting by sketching multiple times in order to make sure all details and all angles of the painting are as they should be, before putting paint down on the paper and bringing the house to life.

Details

Custom House portraits are available in about any size you prefer, the smallest being 8x10, and the largest being 22x30, or any size in between! All paintings will be hand painted on hand-torn 300 lb watercolor paper from a photo you will send Ruthie when you purchase. If you want a size that is not listed, you can email me at ruthie.e.kellar@gmail.com to discuss an even more custom size. For available sizing options, pricing information and to place an order, click the Shop Now button below!

I will include any extra details you may desire — or leave any out. That’s the beauty of a custom painting! It’s made to order. If your landscaping isn’t in yet for your beautiful newly-built home, or if you would like for your family or pets to be included on the porch, or if you want your shutters to be black instead of faded black—you just have to say the word!

You may also include any words you would like added to the painting. For example, your family’s last name, the year you moved into the house or got married, the address of the house, or anything else, like “Our First Home.” Or you can always choose to have your house painted with no words at all; the choice is yours.

To add words or other details, there will be a box that will pop up when you add the painting to your cart. There you can type a message to me about what you would like to be included (or excluded) in your painting.

My personal favorite size is an 11x14 matted (with the painting on top of the mat so you can see the gorgeous edges!) and framed; and I’m always partial to a gold frame.

Each painting is completed on a piece of 300lb cold-pressed watercolor paper with a hand-torn deckled edge. Framing is not included unless you purchase the add-on. You will receive your painting, hand-packaged in a plastic sleeve for it’s protection until you frame it.

Framing is available for all sizes and all products, see Custom Framing Add-On under ‘Shop’ for more details on framing.

Shipping is available for any size painting, to anywhere in the continental US. I also have a local pickup option for those who may live close and prefer to pick your painting up in person.

Yes, all you have to do is send me a photo! Here is your reminder that the painting can only be as good as the photo, and I can only include as much as I can see unless you tell me otherwise! For example, if you send me an angled view of the house, your painting will be of an angled view. If you send multiple angles or pictures, I will default to painting just the front of the house unless you let me know you want something different.

Please plan to submit the following in a separate e-mail to ruthie.e.kellar@gmail.com after paying for your portrait on my site:

  1. Photo of the house

  2. Additional details you would like added or taken away from portrait

  3. Order Number

If no photo is received, I will follow up with you via email requesting again the photos a few weeks before your house portrait is to be painted.

Turnaround time? To protect my time and energy, I typically plan to do around 5 commissions a month, and the schedule fills up as people place orders. If you have a time crunch, feel free to email me and let me know that and I can see what I can do to work with you. If I won’t be able to accommodate your timeline, I have a few other artist-friends I can point you to who may have more flexibility and I am happy to point you in their direction. Check out my home page for the current estimate on when you will get your painting if you order now!

If you have any other questions I haven’t answered, or have any other concerns or comments, or if you’d just like to say ‘hi!” please email me at ruthie.e.kellar@gmail.com, I would love to chat!
