Will open again in early-2024!

happy autumn!

As the mornings turn crisp and all the basic girls (ok its me) run around in cute lil sweaters that its definitely not cold enough for yet, (iced) PSL in hand, we all get a little tingly-excited for the season that’s upon us. What is it about fall?!

Even though Hobby Lobby is already decked out for the Christmas season, I love to slow down and enjoy the roses? no, enjoy the LEAVES that are also beginning to subtly shift, reminding me that even a transition into seasonal death can be beautiful.

Someone told me recently that the color a tree’s leaves turn in fall are the trees’ TRUE colors. Similarly, I think we make room for our truest and most authentic selves when we let change take place; when we let ourselves be changed. Because much like the jewel-toned trees in October, its breathtakingly beautiful.

Every fall, I find myself collecting leaves that stop me in my tracks with their beauty. Last year, I found myself googling ‘can you preserve leaves in their fall-color state,’ and spoiler alert: you can try but they just won’t keep. I’ll save another existential life comparison there (you’re welcome), but as I was deeeeep into craft blogs, I was like ‘wait duh I can paint them as I see them and keep them forever AND that also allows me to share the fall-love with my people.’

So, a long-winded-welcome to my new Painting-A-Day series:

Current Obsession: GOUACHE

What is gouache? It’s a super pigmented (read: BRIGHT!) paint that is also water soluble. So transitioning between gouache and watercolor is super easy, but gouache can also take on a much bolder, solid style of painting too!
